Website hosting refers to the place where the computer that contains your website will reside and be available on the Internet. The place where you host your website is typically different from where you have your office for most small businesses people.

Disk Back-Ups – They maintain regular back-ups of your website so if something get’s “corrupted” or if you make a mistake and delete a page, or wrongly save over a page, you can correct this with a backup copy of that page.

Good service providers make a backup copy of your website in such a way that they have a copy from a month ago, a week ago, over the last 5 days, and every hour for the last 24! So, even if you made a mistake a week ago but didn’t notice until today, you can still go back to the backup copy and get the original back. Isn’t that great?

Page Authoring Tools – Most hosting companies provide the tools you need to create your web pages. These tools can be very simple and reside on the Internet or be an application that you download, install on your computer and use.

Free Image Libraries – Many hosting companies provide free images for you to use on your site. A word of caution: Do not use images that you find on the Internet on your own website. Unfortunately, I learned this lesson the hard way (don’t ask.) Also, there are a number of websites available that provide free and low cost quality images.
