Small Business Web Site

Home » Small Business Web Site

In my own businesses, I can identify a number of major sales opportunities that were obtained solely as a result of my website. One website sales lead generated nearly $1,000,000 in sales over a few years.

Businesses that do not have a website miss out on an enormous opportunity to generate lucrative sales leads and to convey a professional appearance. Today, there is no reason for any start up or small business to not have a website.

It should be clear that the small business web site is an easy way to enhance your sales generating capability.

The essential questions are:

  1. How to efficiently get your website built (especially if you have no technical skills.)

  2. How to efficiently get your website optimized so that people can find you.

At this point, I believe that everyone realizes the importance of a website to business, the problem, I think is that many small business people do not know how to make #1 and #2 above happen. Fortunately, you can get these things done easily with inexpensive yet high quality contractors.

How to Get a Small Business Web Site Built:

  1. Website Text - Only you know your business. There obviously is no way around writing the information for your website. But, if needed, you can create an outline of the information and hand it off to a relatively low cost writer. This writer can polish your text and make it more clear and punchy for your website.

For some busy entrepreneurs this is a very viable option. Again, you can easily find a contractor for this. If needed consult the list of suggested contractor resources.

When writing the website text, use an outline format with a home page and all the sub pages you need based on what you would like to communicate. If this is difficult for you, just keep it simple. Even a 5 or 6 page website will work.

  2. Design, Look and Feel – You will want to communicate some concept of your website, the image you are trying to convey, color scheme, etc. Keep in mind that if you defer the design to the contractor, you may not get what you really want. Also, the lowest cost contractors will not necessarily have the best eye for design.

A good way to do get a good design is to use a website template. For self serve templates check out Yahoo’s. Also, if you use a contractor, they should have templates available from which you can pick. Finally, you can always point the contractor to websites of companies with the proper look and feel.

  3. Build the Pages - You can do this yourself, but I would assume you would have already done this. Instead, you can get a contractor to build a professional looking website for as little as $500. Again, see the list of contractor resources for help.

In summary, a Small Business Web Site is an essential element of a business that not only provides a professional look but can also generate enormous sales leads.
